Peridot is a yellow-green gemstone, often called evening emerald for its appearance in certain lighting. The "t" is silent, and so it is pronounced pear-a-doe.
Most peridot comes from Arizona, Burma, Norway, Red Sea islands and Hawaii. On rare occasions, it also appears in meteorites.
The Chrysolite mentioned in the Bible is believed to be peridot.
Peridot is associated with success, health and attracting love. It is the birthstone of August and the stone for the 16th wedding anniversary.
